Firm Foundations

Every relationship in life begins with a foundation of understanding. The ABCs are the foundation for reading, writing, and speaking. Mathematics are based on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tables. The primary colors, red, blue, green, yellow, make every other color. We learned this foundations as children and they carry us into adulthood and life. However, we do not lay firm foundations in our spiritual relationships.

In Luke 6:46-49, Jesus teaches a parable about a wise and foolish builder. The wise man built his house on rock and when life hit hard, the house did not fall. The foolish man built his house on sand. When life hit that house it fell. The foundation determined the strength of each house. Our faith is strengthened by the foundation we lay in God's Word. Building men and women has foundation. Marriage has a foundation. Raising children has a foundation. Education and careers have foundation. Ministry has foundation. Our existence has foundation and if we do not build wisely, our lives will never achieve fullness.

Foundation of faith prevents us from being deceived by the enemy. Satan's tactics are subtle. If we do not understand God's Word, satan will mix error with truth and we will fail. Believers fall away for lack of knowledge and understanding. Jesus never fails. Our lack of understanding regarding His lordship causes us loss. The longer it takes to build a foundation, the easier it will be for false leaders to dissuade our thinking and lay strongholds in our minds. These strongholds prevent us from hearing, following, and obeying the truth.

It is never too late to rebuild a poor foundation. If you are willing, the Holy Spirit will help you. He will lead you and guide you into all truth. He will establish your faith, settle your mind, and give you the right understanding of the Lord. You will mature in your faith and move successfully in the plan Jesus has for your life.

"If the foundation be destroyed, what will the righteous do.?" -Psalm 11:3
